A peaceful, shallow pool near a favorite spot of mine in the woods. I shot in the summer a few years ago, and applied the orton effect to make the colors jump.

Fire looks cool, and it looks even cooler in black and white.

It’s also pretty difficult to shoot, because the exposure is damn near impossible to meter. It winds up being a guess – pick an aperture, try a lot of different shutter speeds, and pick the one you like best later.

Now I’m hungry for s’mores.

Trapped

A leaf that got caught in between two parts of a fence. Surprisingly (to me, looking at the metadata now), I didn’t use all that wide an aperture for the depth of field. But it still came out just right, and that’s what matters isn’t it?

Cascading

A small series of waterfalls that I spotted on the side of the road in upstate NY. I used a tight zoom/crop to focus on the falls, and a long shutter speed to get the water blur.

Spring is in the air…

Title: The Long Arm by Me

This was actually from last year. Rest assured, there’s a whole new mess of Cherry Blossom photos building up from this year just waiting to be uploaded.

I stood near the base of a particularly large cherry blossom tree for this, following this particularly long and twisted branch outwards with the camera. I underexposed it a tad to bring out the color, which explains why the branch itself is so dark.

I just love the relative size of the balloon and the two people standing at its base. The morning haze was still dissipating, so the light (and color) are still a little diffused here. Shot with a wide angle, small aperture, and fast shutter speed so as to be as sharp as possible, given the lens I was using and the conditions.

I guess at the end of the day, I’m a pretty dull person

Title: Barbed

Two days in a row I really don’t have much to say… and I really can’t think of much to say about the photo either. It’s a macro shot of a barbed wire fence. Kind of neat, but there weren’t really any tricks to taking it.

Here’s to hoping  I’ll have more to say tomorrow.

An Awesome Post Title

I’m short on time as I type this, so there won’t be anything substantial here. The above is a shot of the sun through the some pine needles. Strangely, it’s not one I regard as particularly fantastic, but it did make explore when I first posted it.

One Million Photos

No, I don’t have a million photos. Not even close. But it’s the goal of blogger Thomas Hawk. And I think that’s a pretty awesome goal. There’s some interesting thoughts about copyright in that post as well, but mostly it’s the goal that struck me.

The photo is of a white duck, who was especially kind to pose for me. Mostly because he thought I had food.
